Herr Hugo Slinncs Is makiug a big effort to secure the mastery of German shipping. Since he failed to conclude an arrangement with the North German Lloyd, and failed to secure election to the Board of Directors of the Ifamburg-Amorikan Company, lie has bifen buying big blocks of shares an both companies, with the result that tie is now dominant in the North German Lloyd Company, Ihc shares of which have risen from £238 to £405 in a month, and Hamburg-Amcrika lias risen from £255 to £370. Herr Slinncs is also buying ships freely at home and abroad. He lias added -i 4,600 tons to his own fleet since February. By the end of the year Germany will have afloat 20 per cent of her pre-war tonnage. The building capacity of the German yards is now eighty per cent of her pre-war production.
