RURAL MAIL DELIVERY
THE GOVERNMENT PROPOSAL. INDIGNATION AT PATER AN GI. At a meeting of settlers at Paterangi on Friday (lie following resolution was carried: “This meeting, representing Ihe settlers of Paterangi connected with Hie rural delivery from the Ohaupo post office, emphatically protests against the proposal to charge £2 per annum per household on pain of being deprived of postal facilities. Further, this meeting lias no hesitation in condemning the rural policy of the. department as high-handed and unjust, in lliat townspeople arc allowed live free deliveries daily, whereas country residents are not oven guaranteed a daily service; while llic real backhlock settlers, whose interests are supposed to be advanced by the proposed change, are entirely neglected owing to Hie fact that in few eases are there four houses to the mile as required. As those who have been no burden to the department, in as much ns our delivery has been profitable to the Postal Department, wo demand that wc shall not be denied existing advantages, especially in view of the facts that neither the towns contribute towards rural delivery, nor are the sparsely populated districts likely to benefit. We suggest that in order to meet the situation matters be so arranged that all sections of the public shall equally and proportionate!v enjoy the privileges and share the responsibilities of the postal service.” A copy of the resolution is to be forwarded to the member for the district, to the Postmaster-General, and to the Prime Minister.
