IRISH IMMIGRATION

OVER 4,000,000 GONE SINCE 1851. The Emigration Statistics of Ireland for 1920, issued as a White Paper, show that during the year the total number of emigrants who embarked at Irish ports with the intention of setfling permanently elsewhere was 15,585, of'whom 6075 were males and 9510 were females. They include, 15,531 (6044 males and 9'tß7 females), representing 3.5 I or 1000 of the estimated population, who were slated to be natives' of Ireland, as compared with 2975 such emigrants in 1919, equivalent to 0.7 per 1000. During the period from May i, 1851 (when the collection of emigration returns commenced), to December 31, 1920, the number of natives of Ireland who emigrated was 4,338,199 (2,251,520 males and 2,086.679 females), equivalent to 83.2 per cent of the average population of the country.
