WAIKATO CENTRAL SHOW
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A general meeting of the Waikato Central Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Cambridge, yesterday afternoon. Mr Norman Bunks (president) was in the chair. A motion was passed authorising the president, secretary and Mr Butler to sign the necessary papers in connection with renewal of lease of the showgrounds. Some discussion arose in connection with the Borough Council's charge for rates re the showgrounds. It was pointed out that some years ago the Council agreed to half rates being charged. The Council now, seemingly, considered full rates were due. On the motion of Mr Butler, seconded by Mr Sands, it was decided that the president, vice-president and secretary Interview the Mayor, with a view to seeing what could be done, and asking that the Council consider granting a reduction as the association was not a revenue-making one. The Catalogue.
The matter of having the schedule and catalogue printed was left to the Becretary to attend to. The following committees were set up to revise the schedule before printing; the head steward of last year being included in each instance: — Thoroughbreds, Hacks and Hunters: Messrs N. Banks, 11. McGullagh, Entwistle and Misses Lewis and Hooper. Tho Pig Section. A suggestion was made that the pig section be cut right out. The president considered that if the fences of the pens were, fixed up it might induce more entries, although, on the other hand, much work was entailed in getting the pigs from the railway siding to the showgrounds. Last year there were only three exhibits. Mr Sands moved that the pig section be cut right out for this year. The labour'did not warrant it as the competition was poor.
The president said he knew one man who had shown pigs in previous years, and his complaint was that the pens were in a very dilapidated state. If they were still going to show pig classes to advantage, the president said they must first put the yards in order.
The president moved that Messrs A. J. Arnold and F. itiscombc be the sub-committee to deal with the revision of the schedule in this respect. i-r-Garried. Mr A. N. Macky was added to the committee on the motion of Messrs Sands and Calloway, as, it was slated, he knew the feeling of this meeting. General, It was decided that the Insurance on the buildings on the grounds be paid by the Association. Mr 11. A. Kelly offered a donation of two guineas for the best foal by "Marcellus." —Accepted with thanks. The grounds committee and revisionary committee are to meet on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the secretary's office.
