Mr Carlyle Smythe, the well-known theatrical manager, is in Hamilton. ~ Mr Mervyn Wells left Cambridge for Wellington last evening. Mr J. A. Young, M.P., left for Wellington last night to attend the Parliamentary session . Mr Alfred Hill, the composer, has married Miss Marei Solomon, Professor of Harmony, at the State Conservatorium. Mr Alexander Watson, the eminent elocutionist, with Mrs Watson, arrived in Hamilton to-day. They are staying at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr M. Simrnonds, formerly of the Court staff at Hamilton and Auckland, has been appointed Clerk of the Court at Pukekohe. The death is announced from London of Sir William Garforth, the inventor of the method of extinguishing coal dust and gaseous explosions in mines, as well as life saving apparatus. Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Education, who opened the new school at Tc Awamutu yesterday, was a passenger for Wellington by the express in the evening. The death is announced from Christchurch of Mr Adam Shuan Thompson, aped 78, formerly of Invercargill. Deceased was the father of Rev. A. T. Thompson (agent for the British and Foreign Bible Society) and Rev. L. Thompson (of Solway College, Masterton).
