CORONER'S FINDING. CORROSION OF THE THROAT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. DUNEDIN, Saturday. Tlie inquest into the death of James W. Shearer, who died on Saturday last, has concluded. The deceased was met by a constable in the street on July 22 in a dazed condition, and was subsequently taken to the hospital. He gave some indication that, he had been given drink by other men, but when interviewed in the hospital on several occasions was very reticent. The coroner returned a verdict, that the cause of death was inanition following corrosion of tlie throat through faking a corrosive acid, but there was no evidence to show how or in what form the acid was taken or administered. In giving this verdict the coroner said that deceased, who was iO, lived ii (lore prior to war service, and afteriills was in a weakly state for a lime. II appeared as if deceased was keeping something back concerning the night before the police found him. He (the coroner) did nut, think it was a case nf suicide, but probably deceased drank some concoction which he though! was whisky, but which conlainwl acid.
