COUNTIES' CONFERENCE
ADOPTION OF REMITS. By TclesTaph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Saturday. The conference of the New Zealand Counties' Association was resumed today. A remit was adopted: "That any person who iS in the defaulters' list be. disqualified from nominating a candidate for election as a councillor, and that such person be incapable of being elected as a councillor." It was resolved: "That in all cases where a local authority institutes proceedings in respect of breaches of the Impounding Act, all the fines imposed should be paid to such local authority." Another remit was passed agreeing that the mileage fee for impounded cattle shall be Is per head per mile or fraction of a mile, irrespective of number. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the Mines Department that it, allocate grants for the upkeep of roads in coal districts on similar lines to the allocation of votes for roads in goldflelds districts. II was decided that the Government be asked to introduce legislation to provide thai all hanks carrying on business in the Dominion pay interest on the daily balance of local bodies' current accounts. : The election of office-bearers re- ' suited:—President, Mr A.
