AN ISLAND MURDER. SENTENCE COMMUTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Executive Council considered the case of a native named Matiu, who was sentenced to death for the murder of a native constable at Niue Island. Tlu Acting-Premier subsequently announced that the death sentence had been commuted to imprisonment for life. INQUESTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Thursday. At an inquest regarding the death of Thomas Thcw Young, of Duncdin, a master tailor, who died at the hospital, the evidence showed that deceased was on his way north on a health trip. The Coroner found that the cause of death was rupture of the stomach, due to a perforation of an ulcer followed by peritonitis. An inquest was also held on Edward Simpson, who was found dead on a reclamation, on July 30. The coroner's verdict was that death was due to an irritant poison, in all probability selfadministered.
