MR JUSTICE CHAPMAN

RETIREMENT FROM BENCH. CEREMONIOUS FAREWELL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The occasion of Mr Justice Chapman’s retirement from the Bench was marked by a ceremonious farewell at the Supreme Court. There was a crowded gathering of the legal profession, and the Gfilcf Justice, Sir Robert Stout, and Mr Justice Hosking, with Mr Justice Chapman were on the Bench. Mr Skerrctt. K.C., on behalf of the profession of the Dominion, and Mr O'Leary, president of the Wellington Law Society, made highly eulogistic speeches. Sir Robert Stout, on behalf of himself and colleagues, referred to the pleasurable association on the Bench with Mr Justice Chapman, who has occupied a seat thereon for 18 years. Mr Justice Chapman replied, and gave many interesting remimsences of his early legal career, in New Zealand. He stated that in two months he will have completed the 'fiftieth year since he was called to the bar.
