SMALL SHOPKEEPERS
EARLY CLOSING ACT. LEGISLATION NEXT SESSION. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Representatives of small shopkeepers waited upon the Minister of Labour to bring under his notice the effect of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act of 1920. Prior to the passing of the amendment small shopkeepers, except in F certain trades, were at liberty to keep their shops open after G p.m., provided assistants were not employed. The Minister pointed out that when the Bill was before the House no representations on the matter vvef-e made by those now complaining. Similar representations had been placed before the Prime Minister and himself at Auckland. Opportunity to reconsider the question would be given, and a Bill would be Introduced next session. If it were opposed it would be brought up again In the second session.
