Mr John Blomfleld, A.M.1.C.E., of New South Wales, is visiting Hamilton. At the Methodist Conference, in Wellington, Rev. H. Ford was advanced a year In his probation. John William MacDonald, at present assistant Public Trustee, lias been appointed to the position of Public Trustee. Mr F. Innes, a former resident of Hamilton, is" spending a short holiday here. A Capetown cable message states m that Sir Edgar Walton has accepted ■ Hie South Africa High Commlssionership, and resigned his seat in the Assembly. Mr W. Poole, postmaster of Cambridge, is still conflod to his home owing to illness. Mr H .Moore is expected to arrive this week to relieve him.
Mr F. J. Marshall has consented to the request of a number of representative business men to allow himsel fto be nominated for the position of first Mayor of'Morrinsville. Mr John Rowe, of Gladstone (Wairarapa), celebrated his 103rd birthday last week. Mr Rowe attended the Early Settlers’ Association’s gathering at Carterton, at whicli he made an interesting speech. Mr Gaughley, M.A., Assistant Director of Education, has been appointed Director in succession to Dr. Anderson, who is retiring on superannuation. Mr W. W. Sturgess, of Epsom, a former resident of Rijkuhia, is the guest of Mr J. A. Steele of the latter place. He will remain in Waikato a few day’s..

wished the recipient every success, snd expressed regret at his departure. ■V His numerous friends will be glad to hear of the recovery from serious blood-poisoning in the throat of Mr J. A. Steele, of Rukuhia. Mr Steele has been laid up at Tauranga for the past six weeks, where he underwent an operation. He is now back in Waikato quite well. Mr John Knight, of Epsom, formerly president of the Waikato A. and P. Association, and member of several other Waikato organisations, is spending a few days in Hamilton. Like most others who visit the town after a lapse of years, he is greatly impressed With its-progress.
