By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, this day. The annual Methodist Church Conference opened at Wellington last evening, the Rev. \v. Grigs being inducted, as president. In the course of Ids inaugural address he congratulated the conference on the position of the Methodist Church frimosl at the close of the (irsl century of its history in New Zealand. The nexl eleven months would be hut a span between tw ntiiries, and. with the intensest interest they were looking forward to their centenary conference next year. Their church, like all oilier institutions, was suffering from ttic after effects of Hie war, but they must no! let thai make them downhearted. They must fight on with high 'endeavour for the great cause of Christianity. The League of Nations, now operative, really marked a great step in advance, and the application of Christian principles was required for the solution of the problem of social and economic unrest. The Rev. C. 11. Laws. Principal of the Theological Institute at Auckland, was chosen president for 15122, and Mr W. liotdis (Christchurch) was appointed vice-president of the conference, the highest position for Which a layman is eligible. The Hey. A. Ashcroft was re-elected secretary.
