His Excellency the Governor-Gene-ral, Viscount .lellicoe, left Prankton for Auckland by the Main Trunk express at 3.45 this morning. Mr Roberto Romani (Lafferty), of Hamilton, has been singing at Palmerston North this week. Mr P. It. Stewart, manager of the National Bank at Hokitlka, has received notice of transfer to Hamilton. The death is announced from Melbourne of Mr Henry Teasdale Smith, well-known as a contractor on a large scale, principally for public works. A London cable message states that nl the Institute of Actuaries examination, Mr H. Lavery ' (Wellington) passed Section A, Part I. The Racing Commission, which consists of Messrs F. Earl, K.C., (chairman), W. E. Bidwill and VV. H. S. Rice, is now in Otago. Mr D. W. Dunlop, advisory inspector to the Board of Education, has been visiting the school* in the surrounding district. Mr H. Honeybun, an ex-llamiltonian, but now of Hawke's Bay, is paying a visit to his relatives in Hamilton. He is surprised at tile marvellous growth of the district and iuwn since his last visit.

Mr J. Allen, of Matamata, while in Auckland, was' presented b«y the French Consul with the Medallle Militaire.. awarded to him by the French Government, for services during the war period at Samoa. Rev. Father Golden, of' Auckland, celebrated his jubilee to-day, having been for fifty years a priest. OldWaikato citizens will remember Father Golden, who was instrumental in having the Cambridge Catholic Church built about 40 years ago.

A very pleasant social evening and dance was hold on the Manuwai by members of the Bohemian Glee Club on Thursday evening. The music was by the Bohemian Orchestra, under the baton* of Mr J. Dobson, L.T.G.L. iAuckland). There were about 100 couples present, and tfic trip to Ngaruawahia and back was thoroughly enjoyed. \

Mr and Mrs J. Powell were entertained by the settlers of Pirongia prior to their departure for Auckland. Mr Powell was presented with a goldmounted cigarette holder in a silver case, and Mrs Powell with a gold brooch set, with rubies. Eulogistic, reference was made to the many good qualities of the guests.
