The recent decision of the Raglan Harbour Board, which body incidentally is the County Council, 1" levy a wharfage charge of threepence per box on all butter passing out of the Port of Raglan, has caused quite a feeling or consternation among the district cream suppliers to the local butter factory. The announcement has come as quite a shock to the dairy farmers of the several districts concerned, many of whom consider that some notice should have been given by the County Council of its intention to tax the output of butter passing over the wharf. It is strongly felt that the butter producers of the district should have been consulted through the local Co-operative Company before so drastic a proposal was decided upon. As a large proportion of the Raglan County Councillors who constitute the local Harbour Board reside in and represent distant parts from the. maritime town, it is felt that they are nut able to appreciate the full importance of a close co-operation between th i local settlers in the control and administration of port affairs, with a view to encouraging the development of (lie lands of the many districts bordering or and served by the Raglan Harbour, The probable outcome will he a demand from those who a re dependent on and affected by the use of the harbour, fo." n re-constitution of the Raglan HarßOir.' district with a Board truly representative of tin' local interests.
