LAND FOR SOLDIERS
BALLOT FOR WAIKATO BLOCK. A ballot for 12 sections in-the Pukcniapou settlement, l.~> miles south-east from Te Awamutu, was conducted on Wednesday by the Crown Lands Commissioner for South Auckland, .Mr 11. M. Skcct. The sections were open for selection by discharged soldiers only, and the number of applications ranged from 20 to 22 in the case of six sections of improved land, and from i to 12 n the ease of several unimproved sections. The block is described as being of undulating land, with portions id' good flax and raupo swamp; the soil is of dark loamy quality, and most of the sections are well watered. Following- arc the successful applicants:—Section 1, 70 acres, L. Kearney. Te Kuiti; section 2, 70 acres, H. M. Jamieson, Huakura Farm; section :t. 70 acres. E. M, Guernier, Te Aroha; section 4, 68 acres, R. N'ewnes, Puahui; section 5, 80 acres, with homestead, C. 71. Andrews, Remucra; section (i, 71 acres, R. W. Parker, Hamilton; section 7 7i acres, F. 11. Scott, Pirongia; section 8. 71 acres, I). Mclntyre", Waihou; section 0, 101 acres. A. V. Xcwland, Matateke; section 10. 151 acres, W. S. Terry, Frankton Junction; section it, 115 acres, F. (J. Warren, Te Kowhai; section 12, lib" ceres, P. W. Griffith, Manurewa.
