The Japanese Foreign Office has not objected to Britain's refusal to cooperate against America, as Japan does not contemplate hostility against America. Japan is willing to enter into a triplicc, emprising Britain, America, and Japan, but America refuses all alliances. Japan, therefore, will make a British alliance and an American rapprochemenfrfUie guiding principles of her foreign policy. The Foreign Office stigmatises as false the newspaper assertion that Japan has been deceived during the past seven years because she was relying on British support against America. THE SENTRY INCIDENT. SEEKING A SCAPEGOAT. 'Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received February 7, 9.30 p.m. TOKIO, February 7. The. newspaper Kokumin Shimbun, which is understood to be the organ of the Military Party, in a sensational article, charges the Foreign Office wilh aiming to. sacrifice the sentry who shot Lieut. Langdon. This paper asserts that this is being done to avoir! troublesome diplomatic complications witii the United States and to court the goodwill of the American Government. The newspaper claims that influential Japanese officials are criticising the Foreign Office for its Interference in the case. The leading inhabitants of the village of Kochi, which is the sentry's home, are co-operating with the prefecture, and they have organised an association to obtain national support for the cause of the sentry, who is declared to have faithfully discharged his duty.
