BODY OF CHILD FOUND.
CimiSTGHURCH, Saturday. The dead body of a newly-born male child was found this morning on the road at Addington. There were no marks of violence on the body, which was in a. cardboard hoot-hoy, and covered with part of a faded purple skirt. FIRE IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Saturday. Early this morning a fire was discovered in a small building in Egmont Street, used by C. J. Ward and Co., boot manufacturers, as a storehouse. The stock, which was insured for £SOOO in the South British Insurance Co., was practically a total loss. MISHAP TO THE ATHENIC. WELLINGTON, Saturday. Letters have been received, stating that on her last voyage to England the Atlienic was seriously damaged by a collision in the Panama Canal. She was followed by the steamer Victoria, which humped into her while lh r ' Atlienic was trying to avoid a collision with an oil steamer that suddenly appeared in front. The side of the, Alhcnic and a life boat were badly damaged, the cabins were flooded, and the passengers had to bo temporarily shifted. Temporary repairs were effected at Colon. All the cargo had to lie taken out of the shin. The damage is estimated at not less than £IO,OOO. An enquiry at, Colon exonerated Captain Grassland, of the Atlienic.
