SWIMMING
HAMILTON CLUB’S CARNIVAL, SUCCESSFUL SESSION. AT BATHS. Fine weather marked the occasion of the first of the season’s carnivals of the Hamilton Swimming Club, which was held at the Municipal Baths last evening. There was a good attendance of the public, who evidently thoroughly enjoyed the evening’s sport. The entries were good and many close finishes were witnessed during the evening. The novelty entertainments, parliculaily the greasy boom, caused a lot of mirth-provoking diversion. Following are the results:— 66 2-3 Yards, open.—First heat: A. Marcroft (Bsec.) 1, R. E. Gilmoir (2sec.) 2. A close finish. Time, 49 1-5 sec. Second heat; A. Lemon (Bsec) 1, A. F. Buckingham (sscc.) 2. Won by two feet. Time, 49 2-ssec. Thirl heat: H. W. Moore (4see.) 1, C. M. Going (2sec.) 2. Won by inches. Time 53 l-ssec. Fourth heat: Stellard (S sec.) 1, Rayner {4sec.) 2. Won by a touch. Time, 54sec. Final: Moore I, Marcroft 2. Won by inches. Time, 4956 C Ladies’ 66 2-3yds.—ll. Whitlock (fsec.) 1, B. Bennett (scr.) 2. Won by 18 inches. Time. 70sec. 33 1-3 Yards, under 11. —-Stanaway (9sec.) 1, W. Wilson (scr.) 2, B. I). Bceston (Isec.) 3. 'Time, 27se*. Relay Race.—Old Boys (Peebles, Thompson. Gilmour, J. Going) I, Gainbridge 2, Hamilton 3. Each of the four competitors in a learn had to swim a length of the baths. It proved a great race, the competitors keeping close together every length. Going won the race for Old Boys by a touch only. Time, 1.20 2-5. 50yds Maiden Handicap.—First heat: A. Quin (isec), I: J. Tail (4sec) 2. Won by 2yds. Time 36 l-ssec. Second heat: A. Fowles (ssec), i: G. Taylor (2scc), 2. Won by 2Jyds. Third heat: Forest (scr) 1; Stellard (sscc) 2. Won by 2ft. Time 40scc. Final; Fowles 1, Forest 2.' Won by two feet. Time 37 l-sscc. 220yds Handicap (open).—E. Hall (scr), 1: H. W. Moore (,3scc). 2: 'l'. Rodger (3sec) 3. This was a good race, though the winner had a lot in reserve. His verdict was gained by a good two yards. Time, 3min 14sec. Ladies’ Dive.- —Miss safcs 1, Miss Bennett 2. 66 2-3yds Handicap (under 17). — N. Ross (Dsco), 1: A. Quinn (4sec), 2. Won by about a yard. Time 52 3-ssee. 100yds South Auckland GhampionB |njp_E. Hail (Cambridge) 1; L. Peebles )Hamilton) 2. 11. Smith (To Awamutu) was the other starter but he die; not complete the distance. Hall was not seriously pressed to win by three yards. Time 73sec. Greasy Boom. —J. Dufty 1. Ribbon Dive. —G. Taylor 1; H. W. Moore 2. Dual Relay Race, 66 2-3yds—K. Brnilii and Miss Mayes 1; R. Dobbs and Miss Whitlock 2. A good finish. Time 51 l-oscc. In the water polo final for the cup presented by Mr Bart Innes, Hamilton ami Old Boys’ teams met, Hamilton winning by two goals to one.
