RUINED AUSTRIA

HOPELESS ECONOMIC SITUATION. AN APPEAL TO THE POWERS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received December 9, 8.55 p.m. LONDON, December 8The Daily Express' Vienna correspondent states that Australia's economic situation has become hopeless. Funds are exhausted, and the Government is unable to purchase food abroad. The country cannot carry on for more than two months. The Chancellor (Herr Mayer) has called a meeting of foreign representatives for to-morrow, also members of the Reparation Commission, to explain matters and to appeal to them to make a last effort to save the country. He says if the Powers cannot help, the Government must resign and request the Reparation Commission to administer the country.
