Constable J. T. Murphy, of Pularuru, has n»overed from his illness, and has resumed duty. A Sydney cable message slates that General Sir W. Birdwood's departure for New Zealand has been postponed till May 27. The death is announced from Auckland of Mr Henare Kaihau. e\-M.l\ for Western Maori District. The cause of death was heart failure. Mr Frank O'Sullivan is at present in Hamilton making arrangements for the appearance of the "Better 'Ole" Musical Comedy Co. on June 2nd and 3rd. Mr Herbert Booth will arrive from the South to-day, and will be the guest of Mr Harry Baulf, of Liverpool street, during his stay in Hamilton. Sir Arthur Gridley, Controller of Electric Power Supply in Great Britain during the war, arrived by the lonic yesterday, accompanied by his wife. Sir Arthur is greatly interested in the hydro-eleclrie schemes in progress and contemplated in New Zealand. Mrs G. Powell, jun., and her infant child passed awajr suddenly at Tnupiri or. the 18th Inst. She was the daughter of Mr W. Newell, of Tamahere, and had been married only about a year. Naturally the sympathy of the whole district is extended to the bereaved husband and relatives. —Taupiri correspondent. It is with regret that I have to chronicle the death of .Mr Lewis B. (Bert.) Novell, son of Mrs 11. E. Lovell, Of Taupiri. one of the earliest Waikato settlers. Deceased, who was only 39, succumbed to pneumonic influenza, and leaves a wife and large family to mourn their loss. He had endeared himself to a large circle of friends, whose sympathies are extended to the bereaved relatives. Deceased was buried at Huntly. Rev. Father O'Hara performing the last sad rites.—Taupiri correspondent.
