♦ ; COMFORT FOR THE SIOK. SURGICAL AND ~MEDICAL CASES. What was formerly known as Te Awhina Private Hospital, which overlooks the river on the Whitiora side of the railway bridge, will in future he called "Riverlea," The hospital, until recently, was under the supervision of Nurse Leslie, and was run solely as a maternity home, but it has now taken over by Sister Lilian White, formerly of the Christchurch Hospital, and in future will receive medical and surgical cases only. The hospital is ideally situated on the brink of the high bank overlooking the river, and, with the improvements that, are at present in hand, should have an unrivalled view of the stream and landscape. While right in the heart of the. town, it is yet away from the main thoroughfare, and is undisturbed by traffic or noise. Having been speciallyconstructed as a private hospital, and not merely converted, it contains all the necessary appliances and appointments, with a splendidly constructed operating theatre and verandahs, sterilising chamber, kitchen presses. French windows, and i 9, in fact, completely selfcontained. Being quite modern, everything is new, clean and hygienic, and ennfort is made one of the features of the home. The matron is assisted by a staff nurse and three others, and is prepared to receive medical and surgical cases up to the number of ten, on the recommendation of any doctor, although maternity patients will no longer be received.
