The South Australia Government have declined to assist in meeting the expenses of sending South Australian representatives in the Olympic team. There will be no Saturday night dance in the Town Hall on 22nd and 29th May on account of hall being hired for 11 nights.

A successful practice of the Hamilton operatic Society was held last night, when, despite, the unpropitious weather, about :tl) members attended, and went through a portion of the melodious score of "Our Miss Gibbs." Next week's practice will take place in Toorak Buildings, and new members will be welcomed. A man named John Kerr, who was sentenced at Hamilton some time ago to two months' imprisonment on a charge of attempted suicide, was before the Court at, Pacroa on Tuesday, charged with being an idle and disorderly person. Jt was stated that he had been living in the bush for some months, subsisting mainly on potatoes which he stole from Maoris at night. He was sentenced to two months' imprisonment.

Al a very successful meeting of the Frankton Hockey Club, held in Messrs Kemp and Hunter's rooms. Mr H. dittos occupied the chair. After the presentation of the balance-sheet the following officers were elected: President, Mr A. E. Miln; vice-presidents, Messrs T. Moffatt, G. Wtlittaker. W. Cann; club captain, Mr G. C. Hunter; hon. secretary and treasurer. Mr V. E. Bergersen. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks lo the chairman.
