CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce took place in the Council Chambers last night,, llu president (Mr G. Parr) presiding. Despite the unpropitlous weather there Was a good attendance of members. The Membership. Dr. L. B. Stringer and Messrs T. B. Dillicar, W. G| Hodder A. Whitlock, W. A. Coulter and J." Rateson" were elected members of the Chamber, and were cordially welcomed by the chairman, who" referred to the ! mportanee to the town and district of a live Chamber. He said the large increase in membership showed that a keen interest was being taken in the affairs of the town. Mr A. Hyde tendered his resignation owing to his, removal lo Mangcre.— Received with regret. - Accommodation for Winter Show. Mr W. H. Paul asked what "was being done by the Chamber in regard lo finding accommodation f6r visitors to Hamilton during Winter Show week. He thought the Y.M.C.A. would probably assist. Mr Hodd reported thai, he and Messrs Fow and Mason had waited on the exMayor some time ago, suggesting that certain public buildings bo secured for temporary accommodation. The *exMayor thought there were legal difficulties in the way, and had promised to meet Ihe committee again, but so far nothing had been done. Mr Tlriri emphasised the importance of the matter, and said that if something could be done it would bo a great boon to visitors, as well as helping Ihe Winter Show. The committee, Messrs Fow Mason and Hodd, with Mr Mckenzie (Y.M.C.A. secretary) were authorised to go into the matter again. Do-hydrated Products. Mr A. F. Spawn, of Seattle, U.S.A., forwarded particulars regarding dehydrated products. " The chairman said the products would be exhibited at the Winter Show. The industry would be a splendid one, for returned soldiers particularly, iT Introduced* into New Zealand. Sharing of Profits. Mr Elwell said lie had forwarded a copy of Mr 11. Valder's recent address before Ihe Chamber on co-partnership to a friend in England, who was interested in coalmining and steel works, and had received a expressing the greatest, interest in the scheme. This friend stated that something of the same kind was being done by his own company £50,000 of new capital being set aside for employees' shares, of which £23,000 had been taken up.
