NURSES IN TENT!
INADEQUATE ACCOMMODATION. OVERCROWDED HOME. UNSATISFACTORY POSITION. Dr. G. W, Gower, the new SurgeohSuperintendenl of the Waikato Hospital, complained at yesterday’s meeting of the Board, of the inadequacy of the accommodation for nursing staff at the institution. At present there were, he said, ten nurses sleeping, or, he should say, “existing” in a tent in the .grounds. How they had managed for so long he could not really understand. The Nurses’ Home at the present time contained 3h single and four double rooms, and in these wore accommodated 63 women. He thought the Board would hare to take into consideration a big new scheme of accommodation. Cr. C. Johnstone thought the doctor had been very modest in ids remarks. The conditions wore highly unsatisfactory, and he believed that several times, during storms, the tent had been blown down, and the nurses had to make their escape Ifterbugh the rain. The matter was referred to the House Committee, together with certain other alterations and improvements suggested Toy the doctor.
