PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Piako County Council, held at Te Aroha yesterday, was attended by Crs. J. B. Thomas, W. .McLean, J. Fitzgerald, J. Orr, P. W. Walters, 0. Glynn, and J. Bell. Waiorongomai Tramway. The Under-Secretary, Mines Department, advised that £6O 13s 4d was available for scrubbing, clearing, etc., on the Waiorongomai tramway. The District Inspector of .Mines forwarded approved specifications for the work. The communication was received. Waihou River Bridge. The secretary, Paeroa Chamber of Commerce, forwarded correspondence hearing on the Chamber's objection to the proposed bridge over the Waihou river, near Matatoki, and asked for the Council's support. The 'Council resolved to obtain from the'iPublic Works Department an assurance that river traffic will not be impeded during the process of the work. Railway Metal Dump.

The District Railways Engineer asked I! •• Council to arrange for a newsi te ."or the metal dump at Walton yards, as the present site occupied too much of the loading space. The Council resolved to ask the Department to carry out the preparatory work necessary to make, the new site suitable. Uniform By-laws. The Matamata County clerk advised that his Council had under consideration the adoption of by-laws, with a view to having them uniform in neighbouring counties. A copy of the proposed by-laws was forwarded, and comments, if any, were asked from Piako County Council with a view to their improvement. Members generally showed favour to uniformity of by-laws and will give discussion to the subject at a special meeting. Various Roading Matters. The solicitors for Messrs Gibbons and Morris forwarded transfer of dedication for the purposes of a road in the Maungakawa Block, near Morrinsville. The present owners purchased the property and had sub-divided :t, hence the need for a road. The Council was asked to attach its seal to the

transfer as soon as possible. To be informed that dedication could not 'oe accepted until the road was formed and metalled to the satisfaction of the Council. The secretary, Ngarua Farmers' Union, drew attention to the fact that the Council had not done half the work promised on the Waitoa-Matamata road, only filling the worst of the holes with clay and not using ithe grader at all. The writer added that the horses that were promised by the deputation of settlers two months ago were not now available to work rthe grader owing to the. haymaking and turnip-sow-in!? season being at hand. The work to be put in hand when grader and horses are available. Messrs Thomson and Farrer, surveyors, Hamilton, intimated that the Farmers' Auctioneering Co. had decided to subdivide its property between the Te Aroha road and Piako river, at Morrinsville, and for that purpose would have to put in a road. The Council was asked to approve the plan enclosed, aid also forward roading conditions as laid down toy the Council for the formation of roads before accepting dedication. The writers are to be supplied with the requirements of the County which stipulate that the road must be 26ft. in width. The secretary, Paratu, Ltd., wrote asking -the Council to open up the dc-

dicated road giving access to section pt. Te Pae 0 Tu Rawuru 2a and 2b, Block 16, Maungakawa, belonging to his company. -Left to riding member with power to act. Stanley Road Concreting. Writing in regard to a proposal to contribute towards concreting Stanley Road the manager (Mr H. E. Pacey) stated that his firm, Messrs Nathan and Co., Ltd., in conjunction with the Waihou Valley Dairy Coy., Ltd., had entered into aj negotiation before he joined Messrs Nathan. They would be pleased to facilitate an early payment; on account of the joint responsibiliry, of the Company and Messrs Nathan,] bu! before that was done they would, like a definition of responsibilities an 1 advantages. Mr Pacey the to he:—(a) A good and satisfactory road to be constructed and maintained by your Council in Stanley Road of a width of 10ft. of concrere; un either side of which fire lo be biased shoulders, each having a width of sft., the concrete in the roadway and. metal in the shoulders each to be 6in. thick; lb) In consideration of yourj Council's undertaking as stated in (a) hereof, .the Waihou Company, in conjunction with Messrs Nathan, .to pay: 25 par cent, of the cost of constructing such concrete road only, such contn-, bution to apply in respect of the construction of that part of the road between the glaxo factory at Te Aroha West and the country boundary near Te Aroha, measuring approximately three miles two chains, provided that such payment by the Waihou Co. and ■ the Nathan Co. shall not conjointly exceed £2500: (c) In consideration Oi the pavment mentioned in (b) hereof, the person, firm or company, which is from time to time responsible for carrying on the business of the milk powder factory in Te Aroha West, shall
