DARING ROBBERIES
LEEDS BANK ENTERED. MANAGEII SHOT THROUGH HEAD. COOL.CRIMINALS AT WORK. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, December 13. A remarkable scries of daring robberies occurred yesterday. A man went into 111.■ Yorkshire Penny Bank in Leeds a-s it was closing, and called out. "Hand,-* t'p," and covered the manager, two'clerks, and a woman assistant with a revolver. The manager tried to rush the intruder, but was shot through the head. The man then locked the clerks in a room, seized £iuO, and drove away in a taxi, which was waiting outside. Tin: driver of (he taxi did not know that anything unusual had happened.
Another robbery of £IO,OOO worth of i jewellery from the bedroom of a house in Gadogan Square occurred early this evening. The thief climbed the portico, entered the lirst floor, and escaped. In another case a couple of thieves lr Birmingham carried away a safe containing £'i 10 from a restaurant while the diners looked on, none suspecting that anything was wrong. LEEDS BANK ROBBERY. AX ARREST MADE. AN ATTEMPT IN LONDON. THIEI«' OVERPOWERED. LONDON, December 12. A man has been arrested in Bristol ir. connection with the murder of the Leeds bank manager. Another attempted bank robbery is reported in London. A young man arrived in a (taxi-cab at the Wood Grean Bank, and was shown into the manager's room. He tired a revolver at the nianager,'bul missed, and the assistants overpowered the thief, who was taken into custody.
