CONGESTION IN TRANSPORT. DEPUTATION TO MR LLOYD GEORGE APPEAL TO ALL CLASSES,. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received Dec. 15, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, December 15. The merchants and manufacturers of South Wales formed a deputation to Mr Lloyd George, drawing attention to the transport congestion. Mr Lloyd George attributed the congestion to the wartime wear on locomotives and waggons, the introduction of an eight-hour day, the ironmoulders' stride, and the increased rail traffic, owing to the rise in coastal shipping freights. He promised to reorganise shipping, labour and coal control, and to speed up the building of rolling stock. He appealed to labour and .capital to pull together, enabling the country to triumphantly enter a period of unprecedented prosperity, in which he hoped all classes would participate.
