WELLINGTON MAYORALTY

THREE CANDIDATES IN THt FIELD. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Mr .1. P. Luke acceded yesterday to Die request of a representative deputation of citizens to offer himself for re-election as Mayor of Die city, and there are now three candidates lor the chief magistracy in Die Held —Mr Luke, the present Mayor, Mr Weston, the president of the Employers’ Association, and Mr Read, Die nominee of the Labour Party. Had the contest been left to Mr Weston and Mr Read, probably the former gentleman, receiving Hie support of Die great body of moderates who cannot accept the Labour platform, would have had a comparatively easy victory, but in a triangular duel the Labour candidate will have a much better chance of success. The result will depend largely upon organisation and individual enthusiasm, and were Mr Read possessed of a little more “personality” lie might hold the strongest hand.
