WAR IN THE AIR
RAID ON PARIS FRUSTRATED. GERMAN MACHINE BROUGHT DOWN. (Australian and N.Z. and Reuter.) Received April 25, 11.30 p.m. LONDON, April 24. French official: Enemy aeroplanes attempting to raid Paris last night were violently fired on. One of them, a biplane, was fcrced to land, and the crew of three taken prisoners.
EXTENSIVE BRITISH OPERATIONS WITH SATISFACTORY RESULTS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received April 24, 11.55 p.m. LONDON, April 24. Sir Douglas Haig reports sharp air fighting yesterday. We heavily bombed Merville, Estaires, Verwerik, La Gorgue, the Chaulnes railway junction, and Ostend docks. We brought down 15 and drove down two enemy machines. One of ours is missing. Our night fliers dropped 20 tons of bombs on Roulers, Merville, Armentieres, Bapaume. Thorout-, Toumai, Courtrai, and the Chaulnes railway station and the Zeebrugge docks, direct hits being obtained on all tbese targets. Several tires were started. All our 'planes returned.
