ANOTHER COMBATANT ENTERS THE LISTS
GUATEMALA DECLARES WAR AGAINST ALL ENEMIES OF THE UNITED STATES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) Received April 24, 12.45 a.m. NEW YORK, April 23. The Guatemala National Assembly has declared a State war against Germany and all other enemies of the United States. [Guatemala is a Republic of Central America, with an area of 40,G00 square miles, much of which is unexplored, the development of the country being greatly hampered by the absence of serviceable roads. Of the population of 2,000,000 about one-third are said to be of European descent, and the rest aboiigines (Maya Quiches) and mixed races. After three centuries of Spanish rule independence was proclaimed in 1821, and the present Republic was founded in 1839.]
