HUGE AIR FLEET WANTED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn ) Received June 19, 9.30 am NEW YORK, June 18. The New York Times' Washington correspondent states that the Administration will ask Congress to provide the greatest air ileet in the world, and wants an appropriation for that purpose of 600,000,000 dollars (£l2O- - BIG SHIP-BUILDING CONTRACTS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received June 19, 10.40 am WASHINGTON, June 18. it is announced that the Government has made a contract for the construction of an additional 10 steel ships and 24 wooden hulls. The total contracted for to date is 28 steel, 32 wood and steel and 30 complete wooden ships, and 48 wooden hulls. NEW YORK, June 18. The United Press' correspondent at Washington learns that the Government is lixing the prices of steel as the result of a report that the steel companies plan large profits on food ships. AIRSHIP PROGRAMME. 30,000 FOR THE FIRST YEAR. WASHINGTON, June 18. It is announced that the first year's American aeroplane programme will comprise 30,000 training, bombing and observation planes. The House and Senate have begun the discussion of the food legislation. BELGIUM'S FUTURE. RESTORATION MUST BE MADE. Received June 19, 1 p.m. WASHINGTON, June 18. Mr Wilson declares that America is determined that Belgium shall be restored to her former place among the nations.
