CHURCH MEETINGS

ST. PETER'S, HAMILTON.

There was a fair attendance of parishioners at the annual meeting presided over by the vicar, Yen. Archdeacon Cowie, in St. Peter's schoolroom last night. Speaking on the report, the chairman said tiiat he very much regretted that, entirely through his own fault, no mention was made in section 2 of the following gifts to the new church: A handsomc-ly-bound copy of the office of the Holy Communion, with the Collects, Epistles and Gospels, presented by Rev. .1. L. A. Kayll, vicar of Huntly; an equally beautiful copy of the Holy Bible for the Lectern, presented by the St. George's (Frankton) Women's Guild; and a brass and oak altar desk with a white silk brocade, burse and veil, presented by the parish of Cambridge. The latter were beautifully worked by Miss Wells.

The following officers were appointed for the current year: Vicar's warden appointed by the vicar), Mr F. A. Snell; people's warden (elected by the parishioners), Mr F. B. Hall; vestrymen (elected by the parishioners), Messrs M. G. Bell, H. G. Coombes, L. B. Gilfillan, E. B. Heywood, W. Mawhinney, W. Ranstead, E. J. (jSmith, F. J. Vickers, J. W. Warren, and E. Wilkins. Mr H. Valder was re-elected hon. auditor, and Messrs R. P. Hazard and G. H. Mair will act as hon. treasurer and envelope secretary respectively.

The Chairman moved a resolution on behalf of the parishioners heartily congratulating Rev. Clement Houehen on attaining the distinction of the Military Cross, for gallant service in the field on the Western front. —The motion was agreed to with acclamation. Appreciation was expressed of the unselfish work of Mr E. Wilkins who, in addition to other work for the church, had been acting as honorary organ blower, and was prepared to do so until the installation of the electric blower.

Mr Barugh raised the question of some quicker method of locomotion for flie vicar, and suggested that either the parishioners—many of whom had cars—should be asked to take him to the out-districts on Sundays, or the parishs should acquire a light car.j— The matter was left to the vestry.
