NEW CHEESE FACTORY
A well-attended meeting of dairy farmers of Turanga-Moana, Matamata, was held in the hall on Friday evening to consider the desirability of erecting a co-operative cheese factory in the district. Mr A. R. Vosper was voted to the chair, and briefly outlined negotiations up to date. Mr Goodfellow, managing director of the Waikato Co-operative Cheese Co., Ltd., stated that the required number of cows—i.e., GOO—had been obtained, and the factory could therefore be proceeded with if a suitable site was unanimously agreed on. Mr Harkness, Government Cheese Instructor, informed those present that he considered the district eminently suited for the manufacture of cheese, and was much impressed with the great possibilities of the district. He considered Mr Pollard's site quite a suitable one.
It was proposed by Mr A. R. Vosper and seconded by Mr Jaines Clothier, that Mr Pollard's offer of two acres be accepted with thanks.—This was carried with applause. The chairman then read the agreement right through, and after several questions had been satisfactorily answered, it was proposed by Mr Gunn and seconded by Mr Clothier, that the Waikato Co-operative Cheese Co., Ltd., be requested to erect a branch factory at Turanga-moana.—Carried unanimously. After further discussion, share application forms were filled in by all present. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chairman, Mr Goodfellow, and Mr Harkness.
This will make the fifth factory erected by the Waikato Co-operative Cheese Company since 1915. The other branches are at Hairini, Aka Aka, East Tamaki, and Matamata.
