EFFICIENCY BOARD
RACING AND AMUSEMENTS. COMMISSIONER TO TAKE EVIDENCE. REPORT TO THE GOVERNMENT. The Mayor (Mr J. H. Gunson) 6tates that as a result of the sitting in Wellington several important reports had been submitted to the Government. These reports, he explained, are confidential as between the Government and the Board, and any announcement regarding the Board's policy must come from the Acting Prime Minister. "I may say," added the Mayor, "that nearly all industries have been included into four groups, and the principal occupations have been similarly dealt with. These were submitted to the Acting Prime Minister, with accompanying memorandums from the Board. The investigation in regard to the points referred to the Board were all carefully considered, and the necessary recommendations will be made upon what appears to the Board the several leading features. "On April 3rd a Commissioner will sit in their respective districts to take evidence as to the advisability of the continuance, restriction, or stopping of racing meetings generally, and also particularly with regard to theatres, picture shows and agricultural shows. The Commission in this respect will probably be unique, as on the date Indicated the Commissioner will be sitting in each centre, and all four military districts will be dealt with at one time. Subsequently the Commissioners will meet in Wellington, and determine upon the recommendation to be submitted to the Government. Notice of this inquiry is given in our columns today.
