SPLENDID RESPONSE THROUGHOUT KINGDOM.
MONEY POURING IN
STEADY STREAM OF INVESTORS
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received January 1(3, 10.40 a.m.
LONDON, Jan. 16. Subscriptions of new money for the great '•victory" war loan are pouring in. Although the banks closed at the usual hour the Bank of England and the Loan Office were open yesterday until (i p.m. There was a steady stream of investors all day long, testifying to the eagerness to help their country in her hour of crisis, thus suggesting a widespread inspiration to secure a far larger number of individual subscribers than was the case in preceding loans. The newspapers emphasise that while Germany is unable to touch us in most things she certainly has beaten us in the number of small subscribers to her various loans. Happily the London bank managers and clerks yesterday reported that they never knew a time when the calls on their aptitude for rapid concentrated business were so numerous. Splendid reports are being received from every part of the Kingdom.
