Mr J. Cherry, who has been connected with the Paeroa branch of the Bank of New Zealand for the past two years, has been notified of his promotion to Hamilton. He will take up his duties here at an early date-
A very old and esteemed resident of Auckland passed &wr.y yesterday at her late residence, Parnell, in the person of Mrs Charlotte Speight, relict of the late Sergeant-Major Speight, of the 58th Regiment. The deceased lady, who was in her eighty-seventh year, arrived in New Zealand in the early forties by the ship Minerva, and had resided in Auckland ever since, her marriage in old St. Paul's being one of the first to take place in the church. In her younger years Mrs Speight experienced many of the excitements and vicissitudes attending the lot of those who lived in the stirring days of the -Maori wars. Her late husband pre-deceascd her by over twelve years, and she is survived by two sons and Tour daughters—Messrs C. Speight, of Hamilton and H. Speight of Cambridge, and Mrs H. M. Warner of Parnell, Mrs of Pakuranga, Mrs F. Twiname, of Parnell, and Miss Speight. The deceased also leaves numerous grandchildren, six of whom are in the fighting line.
