The War Loan.
MR ASQUITH TO UNDERTAKE A NATIONAL CAMPAIGN. NEED FOR ECONOMIES. ALL CLASSES MUST CO-OPERATE. Received June 27, 2.50 p.m. LONDON, June 26. Mr Asquith will inaugurate a national campaign on behalf of the war loan at the Guildhall on Tuesday, when the necessity for economies will be emphasised. Mr McKenna has formed a Parliamentary War Savings Committee in the interests of national economy, and is arranging meetings throughout the country. Many firms are adopting the suggestion to bank the employees' savings, so as to enable them to purchase 5s vouchers. Some are adding a bonus. The committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions is submitting a proposal to invest €20,000, and also recommended members to purchase vouchers. The committee requested Mr McKenna to facilitate trade union investments. The prizes at the Marden Head School sports included vouchers. Though the response to the war loan is satisfactory, it is pointed out in financial circles that the whole-hearted co-operation of all classes is needed to make the loan adequate for the year's expenditure. The Bank of England has notified that it is prepared to receive oversea applications if advice with a 5 per cent, deposit is received before July 10th. WAR LOAN POPULAR.—£ISO,OOO,OOO RAISED ALREADY. LONDON, June 26. It, is estimated that the London banks have already received applications for £150,000,000 of the war loan. OUTSIDE APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. WELLINGTON, Monday.
