BOGUS TENDERING
KIDMAN FINED. COMMENTS BY THl<] JUDGE. Received June 24, 8.45 p.m. SYDNEY, June 24. Kidman was fined £2OO on the charge of forging and uttering a tender in the name of C. Brown and a similar amount for forging a tender in the name of A. James., to which he pleaded guilty. The Chief Justice, in passing sentence, said the case was the first under the new law, and he accepted Kidman's statement that he did not think he was doing any harm, though he was sorry such an impression should prevail in the mind of Kidman or anyone else. So far as the evidence showed Kidman's action did no mischief to the Commonwealth, and under the circumstances lie would deal with the case rather as an attempt to get an unfair advantage in tendering than as a serious eoiitemi)lated act.
