ATHLETICS.

ROVING. HAMILTON TRIAL FOURS. The trial fours on Saturday were very successful. Mr A. Swarbrick (president) acted as judge. The first heat between Bevan's and Bettley's crews was a splendid race until half way home, when one of Bevan's crew lost his slide, which handicapped him a lot. Bettley managed to win by about four' lengths. The second heat between Manning's crew and Clark's crew was won by the former after a great tussle, Manning just winning by his great generalship. The final between Bettley's and Manning's crew was a struggle from start to finish, Bettley just reaching the post ahead of Manning. After the race Mr Holloway made the presentation of the trophies, and gave a nice little speech congratulating the crew on its victory. The winning crew was' J. Bettley, E. Vincent, J A. Donn, L. Stevens, A. Mayes (cox).
