ATHLETICS.
NFW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. TO BE HELD AT FRANKTON. A very weill attended meeting of the Waikato Caledonian Society w a s held at the Frankton Town Hall last evening, Mr G. Watt, sen., ol Cambridge presiding. In announcing the purposes of the meeting the chairman apologised for his inability to attend previous meetings ,amd urged those present to do their best to make the forthcoming sports a success. VOTE OF CONDOLENCE.
The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence to Mrs Moo'iarty at the same time expressing the Society's sense of loss by the death of her late husband who had always taken a great interest in the Society's functions. BALANCE SHEET. The balance sheet which was adopted showed that the receipts for the past ye«r's operations were £172 7s, while the expenditure amounted to £l9l 2s Id, leaving a deficit of £ll 15s Id. Considering the assets at £l4 2s iOd, there remained a credit of £2 7s 9d. N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The chairman said that at a previous meeting the secretary was instructed to write to the governing body with a view to ascertaining whether it would he possible to have this year's championships allocated to Frankton and a reply bad be:n ve>ceived to the effect that the Society would he given the championships, January 29th being approved as the date.
A lengthy discussion ensued, the general feeling being that the holding of the championships would mean the crowding out of many of the Caledonian <items such as dandinigi piping and chopping.. Mr Castleton, however explained that if the Society so desired the cha<mpic<nsbips in those events could also he put on. To bring matters to a head Mr Jolly moved that the Society accept the championships, Mr Sanford Seconding. As an amendment Mr Cameron moved that the championships be not taken and that several more woodch'o|)ping- events be pat on the programme. Mr Paget secbndsd this. On beine put to the meeting the amendment was lost, the motion 'being carried by seven votes. ELECTION OP OFFICERS. The election tot officers resulted : Patron : Mr H. J. Greenslade. Hogg, Ingram, sen., and Ingram jun. OVERDRAFT. The meeting decided to arrange for an overdraft of £IOO thy means of a joint and several accounts, there to be not less than 20 quarantors.
