CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The usual monthly meeting of the Chamber was held last Thursday evening. Mr Home presiding. Several matters of importance were discussed. The question of getting the piers of the railway bridge altered to clear the main road was brought up and the chairman said he had received a favourable reply concerning the matter from the Railway Department.
The difference, m railway freights between Monninsville and Auckland (34s per ton) a nd Te Aroh a and Auckland (25s per ton) was brought up but nothing definite was dome. It was also resolved "That in the event of the Railway ■Department re-
moving the Newmarket Workshops, it be asked to consider Morrinsville's claims." NEW HALL. The site is now being cleared for a new hall and' shops, the work necessitating the removal of the oldest house in the town. SKATING. The skating craze is on and four nights a week this pastime is indulged in by many persons. Next Monday a fancy an* poster dress carnival is to be held a nd many skaters are preparing for the occasion. LAND SALE. Although the auction sale of the Lockabie estate was not a success, there has been a bag demand, especially for the town sections since the sale and now nearly all the estate has been sold. The town sections realised from £4O to £BS.
