A DEFAULTING SECRETARY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This day. "Alex. Watt Pur vis, secretary and treasurer of the Benevolent Trustees manager of the Ohiro Home, was arrested yesterday and charged with stealing £33 12s from the Benevolent Society, and with obtaining a cheque for the same amount by false pretences. Purvis had hitherto been looked on as a model and a most successful official, and the case cause some sensation. Defendant was before the court in the afternoon when the Crown Solicitor said other charges would be laid, and he was remanded till Friday.
