TAUWHARE NOTES.
From Our Own Correspondent.
The annual school conoort, which took place on Friday, the lGth inst., was, notwithstanding the unfavourable weather, a oomplete success. The walls of the building were gay with the work of the pupils, water oolour painting, black and white, and flat-tinting. Besides this, there was an exhibit of sewing, and modelling, the work of the infants. The concert opened with a phonograph item, the machine being manipulated by Miss R. C. Chapman, one' of the 6oholars. 'ihen followed a part song by the scholars Miss A. Haye received an encore for her recitation, " I'm Giandma." The flower recitation by Misses Lynds, Guest, Hoye, Eobins, Dalbeth, M. Lynds and E. Dalbeth, was a very pretty item. Miss B. Jones sang "Why don't They Play with Me" with sweetness and expression. An amusing dialogue illustrated by blackboard drawing was given by Masters G. Guest and C. Jones. Misses B. Jones and W. Snell sang " I Don't Want to Play in Yur Yard," and later "Two Little Girls in Blue," with great success. Then followed a iu>irch, the children being dresced in white and holding large fiowpr wreaths ; it finished with a tableau with coloured lights. Little Miss Irene Pnell sang "(Who'll buy my Posies," which was then taken up as a part sang by the other scholar?. One of the in)st amusing itemi was " The Sick Doll." Master A. Ticklepenny with his ttil 1 h;it, his gold eye glasses and tall collar looked an ideal doctor and he aoted his part well, while Misses Haye and Guest were also good in their parts of thfi item. Master C. Eyne sang " Cockles and Mussels" in character, his clear powerful soprano voioe being much appreciated by tho audience. " The Men who made England," taken by Masters Lynds, Snell, | Eyne, Chapman and Tioklepenny, - was a pleasing addition to the programme. The programme was brought to a olose with "Goodnight to you all" raung by Master Neil, all the children taking it np as a part song, Master Colin Dabbeth acted very efficiently as chairman. Supper was,then served, the children doing thfl necessary waiting. The proceedings concluded with a dance.
