CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Hoard was hi Id on Saturday afternoon, when there weru pro-ont: Messrs J. Taylor (chairman), W Xewell. G. Booth, A. W. (jane and Ji. Swayne, the full Hoard.
Ihe petition ot .Mr A. C-.su), and five other-, praying the Hoird to take over the road in the l'aiu-.here fclsta >■, known as the Av- nne Road, and lo to declare it a pubh highway, was read. Tins petition was read ~t th; pluvious meeting, but the consideration of it was deferred until the full Hoard was present. Speaking in support of tlio petition, Air Newell Baid the a .joining pioperty owners had kept the road in order for the past 20 years, and not one farthing of the rates they Lad paid had been spent upon it, which, they considered, a groat hardship. They were willing to pay all costs of dedicitiou, insert sets of pipes where the Board considered necessary, and, in fact, do anything within reason that the B »ard deemed necessary to be done; and undir those circumstances, ho thought the prayer of the peti ion should be granted. Continuing, Mr Newell said the road was in good condition and would not require anything doing to it for a considerable time. Should the Board be asked to re-form the road during the next ten years, he would p rsonally undertake to do the necessary ploughing, if alive when such a request was made. The Board considerel the matter at length, and as all thought the request was a reasonable one, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Booth, it was resolved that the Hoard take over the Avenue Road of the Tamahere Estate when it had been put in f-pair to the satisfaction of the Board and properly dedicated to the Crown. - Messrs .1. Taylor and K. Swayne were authorised to inspect the road and decide what shall l.e done to it, before it is taken over.
Only cm tender was received for the work to be done upon Victoria, Fencourt ind MeCu's roads, and that wis from the two surfacemen, Messrs Ponnell and Fitzgerald.—-A difficulty arose over the matter of the Board finding a road grader »nd a man to work it, as of course the man the Board would find to work the machine would be one of the surfacemen ; so it wa= decided to decline the tender and call for fresh ones, which will bo returnable on Saturday Bth December next, at 3 p.m. Nothing could he done with the Matangi road as the trees that had been felled on the side ol ,t prevented its being re-formed.—The Board are taking steps to have them cleared away, and then will decide what width the formation can be made, and the work will bo gone on with as spejdily as possible. Tae clerk was instructed to take the necessary st 'ps to acquire one acre of Mr S. Cowliug's laud, on No 1. Cross Road, for the purpose of a gravel pit.
