NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
The monthly inaating of the above Board was held at the office, L'e Kowhai, on Wednesday last. Preseut: Messrs K »'. Shepherd (Chairman), R. H. Nicholson, H. IT, Poynter and 0. Liinuier. Noxious Weeds Act: A copy of a bill to tmerd this Act was received from Mr Greenslade. It provides that every local authority shall, out of its general revenue, clear all lands and roads under its control, excepting that, when it may be reasonably presumed that any noxious weeds have spread from any fence or property having a frontage to any road, the local authority may call upon the occupier to clear the road. It was derided to thank Mr Greenslade for copy of bill, and inform him that it has the Board's approval. Eating on timber rights: Messrs Bros, wrote saying that their interest in the right of cutting timber on section 213 Pukete had now ceased, the bush having been c it out early in the present year, and they contended not rateable The Clerk was directed to look into the matter. Blackett's Road, Ohoto: Messrs Blackett and Farrelly waited on the Board in respect to the bridge leading to their properties, which, they said, required re-building. They also asked for about 15 chains of forming to be done. The Chairman informed them that, owing to the low state of the funds, a new bridge was out of the question at present, but the old ouu might be braced up to last a little longer. The road forming cuu'd be done a little later on. Messrs Blackett and Farrelly also offered to give land for road thiough their respective proparties, if tle Board would bear the expenses of surveying, etc. As the proposed road would end at Mr Farrelly's land, and would not join any other road, the Board decided to request the District Road Engineer to give his opinion as to whether the road would be likely to be approved of by the Department, before tak'ng action. !
Valley Road: The Chairman stated that Jlr Speedy had drawn his attention to the c merete culvert on road near his property, which had subside!,
Repairs: Mr Nioholsou was authorised to have aotne holes lilled in on Kay's road, and Mr Liinuaersomo sundry work done on Cariuther'ti road.
