MUNICIPAL MATTERS.

TO THE EDITOK. Sir,—On the j26ch of September, 1005, a meecing v.-aa held in tbe Volunteer Hall to form a Burgesses' Association, when Mr Kobt. Purr was chosen as president and Mr J. Tidd secretary j about 20 being present, each paid 23 (or agreed to). As I have never heard anything since of this body I would like to know what has become of them and the 2s fees and what's the reason this vigilant society (which w-s fo-med to watch the tactics of the Borough Council) doesn't step out; on this vexed question of Library site, and eodsavuur to settle the ' matter tor the majority of ratepayer?, who aie only waiting tor some one to take a lead. Is the executive of this august body afraid to bell ,the cat, or what's up? as they keep bo quiet on tbe subject. If they prefer to remain "mum" I respectfully request a refund of my 2s anyhow, or insist upon them getting to work, for never in the snnals of iiamilt jq municipal atlairs has there been such an oppottunity as at present for a Burgesses' Association to show their usefulness, when we see Councillors challenging one another outside. It astonishes me that these individuals, who were pronounced to be the most businesslike set of men yet elected, should show the white feather in this fashion; but then you have only to look at them and " refleet," and one can expect nothing else. I couldn't tolerate such a position twenty minute3j but then Cr. Young says it is only a few interested ones that are creating such a dust, if so, why doesn't he face the music, and put the gloves on with Cr. Barton; as for His Worship, well, my opinion is that he is a' out played out municipally.—l am, etc., J. BETTLEY.
