AUCKLAND FARMERS' FREEZING COMPANY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln your issue of the 6th inst., I noticed a letter signed "J. C. Allen," in which the writer tikes Mr Barugh to task for what he (Mr Allen) pleases to call a personal attack, and endeavours to make it appear that his (Mr Allen's) absence
from the meeting at Hamilton was unavoidable, owing to insufficient notice. This is rather a lime excuse, as Mr Allen could have left town by the 1.15 a.m. train, the same as I did. He was fully aware of the meeting, as the day before, I pressed him to leave town with me by th*t train. In his letter, Mr Allen proceeds to point out a few of the disadvantages, should the proposed purchase take plac?, which dis idvantages are in my opinion purely imaginary, and show : a lauK of business instinct on the part of that young gentleman. His views are, to put it mildly, a reflection on the business intelligence of his co-directors. As you are aware, Mr Editor, myself and breed a considerable number of sheep and cattle, and for my part, I am hardly likely to countenance anything detrimental to the farmers' interests. Mr Allen lays great stress on the dead meat trade. Without going into details, I think that (should it be advisable) we may have an opportunity cf entering upon that branch of the business long before the 15 years have expired. The present purchase, notwithstanding Mr Allen's objections, may lead to the goal that he so much desires. However, the fact that Mr Allen's views are not approved of by the shareholders has been amply demonstrated at the general meeting.—l am, etc., H. V. WORSP. September 10th, 1906.
