Fkon Ouh Own Cobbespondknt. After a good spell of nice spring weather we are now having a deluge of rain, which is not welcomed by the farmers, as it interferes with their cropping operations. Most of the larger areas of oats are now up acd are looking very well. Farmers have been busy in this district pieparing their p >tato pints for the coming season, the areas varying from 2 to 15 acres, and if anything like a season is experienced, potat ies should be very plentiful in this district next year. The turnip cropping areas are now lying in fallow, aud the usual acreage is to ba cropped again this year. The milkiug season is in full swinjJ I i>gain, and the milk supply is rising daily, and a record year is anticipated by the local butter factory. The recent war, waged by the Piako County Council against the small birds, is already noticeable, ai the larks and sparrowi are becoming sc*rcir, but something will ba required to be dune in the way of thin* ning out the blackbirds and thrushes, aa both of these are very numerous, and do greit damage to the fruit crop 3. Green flax is in great demand in the district, and as high as 37a (i i per ton, is now offered on the truck. Messrs Farrow Bros., of VVaitoa, are buying up all available flax. The new butchery business is doing a good trade under the managership of Mr Martin O'Meagher. Th6re is some talk of calling a maeti&g of the Cricket club n- xt week, to consider the advisability of forming an association,
