THE BACK-BLOCKS.
(BY fELEGBAPH.—SPECIAL TO WAIKATO
Times). This Day. As the result of a petition received from a number of settlers of Mangaohae, iu the King Country, Mr Greenslade has brought under the notice of the Hon. Hall-Jones the great disadvantage under whicu they are labouring at present. It is pointed out by the petitioners that the road —their only road to i'e Kuiti—is formed for wheel traffic as far a* within about miles of its junction with the Alahoenui-Kawhia road, which has been formed for some years the full width of 16 feet. Hence this 2£ miles of theNgapenga road, which joins tho existing cart roade, is ouly formed 6 feet wide, and causes the settleis a lot of trouble and neediess expense, as they can get all their stuff carted to Troup's, and then because this 2i miles of road is only (3 feet wide, they have to pack for that that distance to get on the 16 feet wide formation. It is asked that •£-iUU should be voted this session for the work.
The settlers and others interested are petitioning the Postal Department to establish a Post Office and mail service in the Mangaohae district, a distance of 12 miles from the Mairoa post office via the Ngapenga road. Mr Greenilade has aLo interviewed the Postmaster-General on the subject and urged the fairness of the request.
