A sou's re<=p risibility !or th < maintenance of his mother was emphasised in the Magistrate's Court, when a sturdy young man named Onus Gray was charged with having disobeyed aa order of the Court to contribute os a towards the support of his mother. It was shown that the defendant was ui arrears to the extent of £2. He paid i;l iuto Court, and thereby pot an adj urnment of the case until the 2Lst inst. His Worship said ho had never heard, ot wore hard-hearted sons with inference to their mother, one of them having actually written and said, " Let her go to work." " A p-or old lady like that," added His Worship, glancing at Mrs Gray. I lie defendant, on being questioned by the Court, said be got bs a day. " And you cannot pay os a week towards your uj ithur," observed His Worship. " 1 will adjourn the case for two week;. See that you get it a 1 paid up, or I will give you a turn up on the hill." The complainant was about to walk oat of the Court, when His Worship said, " Don't go away, Mis Gray. Here are the two pounds which have been paid in, and we will see if we can't get more."
